The Bramble Close group in Dartington found the scheme opened their eyes to energy-saving in all its guises.
Bramble Close member Phil says: ‘I’m more aware personally of when I go shopping that it’s quite easy to go in a see a six-pack of tomatoes in plastic wrapping. But actually if you look at the price: the loose tomatoes are cheaper than the six-pack on special offer, saving yourself money and plastic.’
And the scheme allowed them to pool their knowledge, as Paul says: ‘What I found was useful about the meetings that we had was that often that there would be people at the meeting who knew something about the environment and how to save energy, that you didn’t know. In particular there was a member of our group who works at a builder’s merchants and so knew about LED lighting. If you’re trying to research all this yourself its actually quite hard.’
