What’s it like being a Transition Street?
The Transition Streets project started in 2009 when two groups of Totnes and Dartington neighbours first tried out the idea of helping each other to save energy.
‘When Transition Town Totnes asked if anyone would like to be involved in a pilot project for Transition Streets, I thought OK, time to stop thinking about it, let’s do it!’ said the late Maggie Felder. ‘So I leafleted everyone in the street and 13 people became part of the project. Everyone helped and inspired one another. Everyone wanted to do what they could to support one another as well as the environment we live in and to ‘build community’, said Maggie.
